Mrs. Holm's Genre terms

genre termdefinition
Myth stories from the remote past; they were considered sacred by the teller and audience
Fable a short moral story (often with animal characters
Mystery: a story about a crime (usually murder) presented as a novel or play or movie
Historical fiction A fiction story set in a real period in a nation’s past
Epic A long narrative poem about the adventures of a hero of great historic or legendary importance
Drama play: a dramatic work intended for performance by actors on a stage
Poetry Traditional poetry is language arranged in lines, with a regular rhythm and often a definite rhyme scheme
Science fiction literature based on real or imagined developments in science or technology
Biography an account of the series of events making up a person's life
Autobiography biography of oneself
Legend have a historical basis and a recognizable place in the world. The basis may originally have been a real event or person.
Fantasy stories that involve beings and events that could not exist in real life
Folktale: stories that have been passed down to us over the years by real people
Fairy Tales usually have tales of wonder with magical elements with characters who could be fairies, pixies, elves, etc.
