Networking Vocabulary

TermDefinition
domain name the part of a network address which identifies it as belonging to a particular domain.
network a group or system of interconnected people or things.
browser computer program used to navigate the World Wide Web.
URL synonym for web address
domain extension suffix at the end of a web address, like .com or .net.
internet a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities
router device which forwards data across a computer network
wifi networking technology that uses radio waves to transfer data wirelessly over the air
server a specialized computer that stores resources and allows others on a network to access those resources
LAN local area network; devices on this network are located within close proximity of one another
WAN wide area network; network that covers a large geographical area
