| Retailing | the selling of products to the customer |
| Products | goods and services that have monetary value |
| Goods | tangible terms that are made manufactured, or grown |
| Services | intangible things that people do for us that make us feel better or enhance our lives |
| Retail Customer | purchaser of goods and services from retailers. |
| Manufacturer | business that makes or produces a good for sale |
| Channel of Distribution | path merchandise takes from where it is made to the consumer |
| Direct Channel | path that leads directly from manufacturer to consumer |
| Indirect Channel | path that follows more than one step |
| Wholesaler | one who buys large quantities of product and then resells it in smaller quantities to retailers |
| Producer Channel | manufacturer also owns its retail stores, product goes from manufacturer to retail store to customer. |
| Distribution | deciding where and to whom products need to be sold to reach the final users |
| Financing | getting the money necessary to operate business |
| Marketing Info Management | getting info to make sound business decisions. Usually obtained through marketing research. |
| Pricing | How much to charge to maximize profits |
| Promotion | Communicating with potential customers to inform, persuade, or remind them about a business' product. |
| Selling | Planned, personalized communication that influences purchasing decisions. |
| Market Share | company's percentage of the total sales volume generated by all companies that compete in a given market |
| Customers | people who buy the product |
| Consumers | people who use the product |
