Poetry

TermDefinition
Simile- makes a comparison using the words "like" or "as".
Metaphor- makes a comparison of two different things without a word of comparison
Personification- describes something non-human as if it had human qualities.
Hyperbole- an extreme exaggeration.
Alliteration- the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of a word.
Rhyme- the use of rhyming words at the end or within two or more lines of poetry.
Act- a major section of a play, usually made up of several scenes.
Scene- a subdivision of an act; usually indicates a specific location and time.
Script- the written text of a play.
Dialogue- the lines spoken by the actors; in the script, preceded by the name of the character that is to speak the words.
