| Term | Definition |

| Simile- | makes a comparison using the words "like" or "as". |
| Metaphor- | makes a comparison of two different things without a word of comparison |
| Personification- | describes something non-human as if it had human qualities. |
| Hyperbole- | an extreme exaggeration. |
| Alliteration- | the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of a word. |
| Rhyme- | the use of rhyming words at the end or within two or more lines of poetry. |
| Act- | a major section of a play, usually made up of several scenes. |
| Scene- | a subdivision of an act; usually indicates a specific location and time. |
| Script- | the written text of a play. |
| Dialogue- | the lines spoken by the actors; in the script, preceded by the name of the character that is to speak the words. |
