Definition of parts
| Term | Definition |

| Computer Hardware | parts of the computer you can touch: keyboard, monitor, mouse, video card, etc. |
| CPU | Central Processing unit. Processes program instructions |
| RAM | Random access Memory. Holds program instructions temporarily, loses all data when power goes out. When RAM is low your computer slows down. |
| Input Devices | Keyboard, mouse, microphone, scanner |
| Output Devices | monitor, printer, speakers, projector |
| Bytes Order | byte, kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte, Terabyte |
| Hertz | Measures processing speed of the CPU |
| Multitask | being able to use more than one program at a time |
| Operating System Software | controls overall functions of the computer |
| Application Software | excel, web browsers (firefox), word, email, etc. |
| Word Processing | create documents such as reports, letters, research paper |
| Spreadsheet | performs calculations. budgets, charts, financial planner |
| Presentations | slide shows to help with lectures to a group |
| Database | handles large amounts of data such as, student records and patient records |
| Table | when you setup the database to get ready to use it |
| Form | when you enter information into the database |
| Query | searches for information in the database |
| Report | displays information from database |

| Network | Two or more computers connected together |
| WAN | A network that extends over a large geographic area |
| LAN | A networks that extends over a small geographic area |
| Internet | Global network connecting millions of computers |
| World Wide Web | branch of internet interlinked by documents |
| Internet service provider | company that provides internet access for a fee, xfinity |
| Web Browser | a program that allows you to connect to your computer to web pages |
| URL | Web Address |
| hyperlink | a piece of text or an image that takes you to another web page |
| Search engine | to search for websites |
| Domain | .com=commercial .org=organization .net=network provider .edu=education .gov=government .mil=military .int=internation |
| Header | A section of the document that appears in the top margin |
| Clipboard | Where items that have been copied or cut are stored before they are pasted |
| Hanging Indent | The 2nd line of a bibliography reference is indented 1/2 inch |
| Template | The structure and layout of the document has been designed for you |
