| plot | the events in a story from start to finish |
| first person | narrator is telling story from own point of view |
| third person | narrator telling story from character's point of view |
| theme | the lesson or message of the story |
| climax | highest or most exciting point in the story |
| resolution | how the story wraps up and ends |
| rising action | events leading up to the climax |
| falling action | events after the climax has been reached |
| point of view | the angle from which the story is told |
| setting | The time and place of the story |
| foreshadowing | a hint in the story of something that will occur |
| dialogue | Words spoken by characters |
| personification | An inanimate object given human qualities |
| simile | comparison using "like" or "as" |
| metaphor | comparison NOT using l"like" or "as" |
| alliteration | two or more words next to each other start with the same letter or sound |
| hyperbole | an exaggeration |
| onomatopoeia | word that imitates a sound |
| synonyms | words that mean the same things |
| antonyms | words that mean opposite things |
| homonyms | words that sound alike but have different meanings |
