| Lines | Used to organize information, simulate movement, lead the eyes and enhance a design |
| Positive Space | length, width, and depth of objects |
| Negative space | "white space"; the distance between objects; gives a design breathing room |
| shapes | 2D space; used to enhance a publication |
| geometric | square, triangle, cirlce |
| form | 3D space added to objects by addition of shadows, tone, or color transitions |
| mass | size/amount of space taken up by an element |
| organic | natural or man-made objects such as leaves, trees, and cars |
| texture | used to convey a "visual" sense of feel |
| color | can be used to evoke emotion |
| calming colors | cool colors |
| exciting colors | warm colors |
| neutral colors | beige, ivory, taupe, black, grey, white |
| color harmony | a visually pleasing arrangement of colors |
| color pallette | a chart used to choose colors |
| complementary color scheme | any 2 colors directly opposite each other on the color wheel |
| analogous color scheme | any 3 colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel |
| monochromatic scheme | uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single color |
| color on monitors | RGB; additive color |
| color on printers | CMYK; subtractive color |
| color matching | process of matching colors on computer to colors printed using ink |
| hue | a color |
| value | brightness of color |
| tint | hue plus white |
| shade | hue plus black |
| saturation | amount of hue used; color's intensity. |
