Inventor Invention
Blaise Pascal 1623-1662 Invented a mechanical calculating device called Pascaline 1642 Device performs only addition. Device never worked properly.
Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz 1646-1716 Entered Vo Leipzig at the age of 14 in 1661. invented the Stepped Reckoner in 1670. Device was used to add, subtract, and divide but malfunctioned. Only his secretary attended his funeral.
Charles Babbage 1798-1871 Analytical Engine-Calculating machine that used punch cards to store information was invented in 1842. Considered the father of computers.
Herman Hollerith 1860-1929 Invented the tabulating machine in 1890. Died on November 17,1979 of a heart attack.
John Atanasoff 1903-1995 Clifford Berry 1918-1963 Atanasoff-Berry Computer in 1939 used binary number system in computers today.Clifford helped John finish the computer.
Mark Aiken 1-1944 Went to Harvard University, ASCC- Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator. The first large scale automatic digital computer.
John Mauchly 1907-1980 J. Presper Eckert-1919-1995 Worked on ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integration and Calculator) invented in 1946.Army used this for calculations.
Alan Turing 1912-1954 Died of suicide. Developed idea of a universal machine in the late 30s and 40s. Founding father of computer science, called The Enigma or the Turing Machine.
