DataTypes Program

Questions based on DataType program done in class

TermDefinition
Define main method. a program begins by calling the main method and begins execution with the first line of code in the main method.
Define program block. the code enclosed between { }
Define Naming rules. alphanumeric no spaces special characters except _ $ MUST begin with letter
Define Naming conventions. camelBack notation names are meaningful One-character variable names should be avoided
Define Declaration. process of telling the compiler the name of a variable and type of data to be stored in the memory location allocated to the variable.
Define Data. information formatted in a distinct way
Define DataType. classification that determines how data is stored, possible values for data, and the operations that can be performed on the data.
Define Primitive DataTypes. most basic data types provided by a language.
Define String. class provided by Java that provides the ability to program with words
Define String literal. character(s) enclosed with double quotation marks
Define Assignment. the processes of storing a value at a variable's memory location using =(assignment operator)
Define Syntax. grammar, structure, or order of the elements in a language statement.
How many bits can be in a variable? 32 bits - 4 bytes
How many bits can be in a real variable? 64 bits - 8 bytes
How many bits can be in a boolean? 1 bit
How many bits can be in a character? 16 bits - 2 bytes
What does JVM stand for? Java Virtual Machine
Give an example of declaring a real variable named gpa. double gpa;
Give an example of declaring a integer named age. int age;
Give an example of declaring a boolean named hourly. boolean hourly;
Give an example of declaring a character named initial char initial;
Define Hard Coding.
Define camelBack notation. The first letter is lowercase and for each subsequent word the first letter is capitalized.
What are common names for temporary variable integers? i, k, j m, and n
What does int data allow? storage of integers, numbers fractional component (i.e no decimal point)
What does double data type allow? The storage of rational and irrational (i.e numbers with decimal point)
What does boolean data type allow? The storage of any keyboard character.
