Term | Definition |
---|---|
Menu bar | Found under the Title Bar. Contains items that you can click to make choices in a program. |
Minimize | Button has an “ -- “. When you click, it makes a window disappear from the desktop. The window will then only be visible only as a button on the taskbar. |
Close | Button has an "x". When you click, it removes a window from the desktop and taskbar |
Border & Corner | Drag these with your mouse pointer to change the size of the window. |
Active Window | A window that you're currently working in, it could be maximized or minimized. |
Navigation Pane | the pane on the side that helps you access folders, saved searches, and even entire hard disk |
Details Pane | The pane at the bottom of the window that’s shows the most common properties associated with the selected file |
Templates Drive | Where your teacher can create a folder for you to access documents, pictures, files and links to websites. |
Start Menu & Task bar | Where you can access your Documents folder |
Dark Blue | The color a folder or file is highlighted when you are naming or renaming it. |
Rename a file/ Folder | Click the file name, pause and click again. Type then press enter. |
Address Bar | Located at the top of the window, it helps you see which folder you are in |

Title Bar | At the top of a window. Displays the name of the document and program. [ or the folder name if your working in a folder] |
Maximize | Button has one square on it. When you click, it makes the window take up the entire screen. |
Restore | Button has two squares on it, it is in place of the Maximize button when you make the window full size. this button will return it to its previous size before you maximize it. |
Scroll Bar | Found on the side or bottom of a window and lets you see information that currently out of view. |
Dialogue Box | A special window that asks you a question, allows you to select options to perform a task, or provides you with information. |
Library Pane | The pane on the right that displays the contents of a drive or folder |
Assignment Drive | when you save documents to your teachers folder to turn in assignments. |
Documents | Where you save any work that you have created |
New Folder Button | Click this button to create a new folder. it is located under the address bar |
Light Blue | The color a file or folder is highlighted when you click it once to select it |
Move a File or Folder | Click to select a file or folder, drag to a new folder, drop into a folder. |
Bread Crumb Trail | The series of folders that you opened to get to the file/ folder you are currently in . |
False | Your teacher can restore a document if you accidentally delete it |
True | Student profiles do not have a recycle bin |
