Symbol | Uses symbols for characters |
Serif | Characters have srtokes at the end of letters |
San serif | Characters do not have strokes at the end of letters |
Ornament | Used for decoration to catch the eye |
Script | Appear to be written my hand |
Font | Specific size, weight & style applied to a character |
Monospaced | Each character takes up the same amount of horizontal space |
Proportional | Each character takes up a varied amount of horizontal space |
Font Style | The slant & weight of a character such as Bold or Italic |
Typeface | The basic design of a character |
Monospace | All characters have the same space like a type writer |
Proportional | All charters are based on the size of the character |
Tracking | Horizontal spacing between ALL Characters side by side |
Kerning | Horizontal spacing between pairs of letters |
Serif fonts | Used in the body of a body, in books and magazines, can help you read across the page. Newsletters are type in serif hypeface |
Font Family | A group of similarly formatted typefaces, Arial Bold, Arial Narrow, Ariel Rounded |

Target Audince | A particular group at which a film, book, adverting campaign, etc., is aimed |
San Serif Fonts | Do not have tips or serifs on there tips & are used in webpages |
Visual Hierarchy | An arrangement of text in graduated series to help readers scan & know where to enter & exit the text |
Leading | Vertical line spacing |
Ornamental Fonts | Are not used often (sparingly). Are used on a flyer to catch the readers attention. |
Script Fonts | Look like they written my hand. They should never be typed in all capitals. A prom invitation would be written in script form. Script forms are used for wedding invitations or poetry. |
TypeFace | the basic design of a character, each typeface has a design for each letter of the alphabet. |
