TermDefinition
Internet service provider (ISP) A company that lets you use its technology to connect to the Internet for a fee, typically charged monthly.
multihomed device A device capable of connecting to a network in multiple ways. For example, your smartphone may be able to connect using either cell service or Wi-Fi.
browser An application used to view pages and content on the web, and to navigate among pages.
download To transmit data, such as a digitized text file, sound, or picture from a remote site to one’s own computer via a network, such as the Internet. If you are receiving content from the Internet, you are downloading.
upload To transmit data, such as a digitized text file, sound, or picture from one’s own computer to a remote site via a network, such as the Internet. If you are sending content to the Internet, you are uploading.
