| Algorithm | A set of clearly defined, logical steps that solve a problem. |
| Application Software | Allows you to perform a specific task. |
| Beta Testing | A test version of software that allows people to input thoughts about the software and figure out bugs. |
| Bundleware | Software included in the purchase of a new computer. |
| Flowchart | A chart that shows the different paths a program will take depending on what data is inputted. |
| Inputting | The process of using an input device to enter data. |
| Network License | Rights to install programs on multiple computers. |
| Operating System | An interface between the user or application and the computer hardware. |
| Patch | Application fixes or small updates. |
| Service Pack | A collection of patches, updates and application enhancements. |
| Single-user License | Rights to install programs on a single computer. |
| Software | A programming code written to provide instructions to the hardware so it can perform tasks, such as printing, displaying the Web page or dialog box, or saving a document on the hard disk. |
| Software as a Service | A new software delivery method. |
| Software Development | A multistep process that usually begins when someone recognizes a need to perform a task more effectively using a computer. |
| Software License | Permission to use the program. |
| Software Piracy | Unauthorized copying of software. |
| System Software | Operating system and utility programs. |
| Update | Major application changes. |
| Upgrade | Revised versions of a software program, may require purchase of a new version. |
| Web Application | Apps that don't need to be installed, instead they run over the web. |
