Plot

TermDefinition
Setting The particular time and place in which events occur.
Exposition Introductory material that gives the background of the story.
Inciting Incident Event that set the central conflict into motion.
Riding Action Introduces complications; build suspense; is when the plot "thickens"
Climax Turning point of the story.
Falling Action Occurs after climax; Resolves conflict.
Resolution Solution/outcome.
Conflict Problems or struggles between opposing forces. Internal : Struggle that occurs within the character. External : Character again an outside force such as nature, another person, or a physical object.
Antagonist "Bad guy"
Protagonist "Hero"
Flat Character Characters described simply or underdeveloped.
Round Character A character who's personality, backgrounds, motives, and other features are fully described by author.
Dynamic Character A character who undergoes major changes as the plot unfolds.
Static Characters A character who remains the same as the plot unfolds.
