Plot
Term | Definition |

Setting | The particular time and place in which events occur. |
Exposition | Introductory material that gives the background of the story. |
Inciting Incident | Event that set the central conflict into motion. |
Riding Action | Introduces complications; build suspense; is when the plot "thickens" |
Climax | Turning point of the story. |
Falling Action | Occurs after climax; Resolves conflict. |
Resolution | Solution/outcome. |
Conflict | Problems or struggles between opposing forces. Internal : Struggle that occurs within the character. External : Character again an outside force such as nature, another person, or a physical object. |
Antagonist | "Bad guy" |
Protagonist | "Hero" |
Flat Character | Characters described simply or underdeveloped. |
Round Character | A character who's personality, backgrounds, motives, and other features are fully described by author. |
Dynamic Character | A character who undergoes major changes as the plot unfolds. |
Static Characters | A character who remains the same as the plot unfolds. |
