| columns | are vertical blocks of text in which text fl ows from the bottom of one column to the top of the next. |
| hyphenation | is off in Word; all words appear on a single line, rather than hyphenated |
| Margins | are the blank borders that occupy the top, bottom, and sides of a documen |
| Portrait orientation | a format commonly used for business documents, text extends across the shorter length of the document. |
| Landscape orientation | commonly used for brochures, graphics, tables, and so on, orients text across the longer dimension of the page |
| page break | is the location in a document where one page ends and a new page begins. |
| section break | is used to create a layout or formatting changes in a portion of a document |
| widow | is the last line of a paragraph that appears at the top of a page, as shown in Figure 5-14. |
| orphan | is the first line of a paragraph that appears alone at the bottom of a page, as shown in Figure 5-15. |
