TermDefinition
Backstage View The Ribbon tab where you do “behind the scenes” tasks such as getting information about the current file, creating new files, printing the current file, sharing files with others, and defining file properties.
Contextual Tab A tab that appears on the Ribbon only when you select certain items in a file, and they contain commands related to that item.
Gallery A list of options available for a command.
Home Page The first page that opens when you start your browser, also called the start page.
Internet A vast network of computers located in all of the world and linked to one another.
Link (Hyperlink) Text, call, or an object that when clicked "jumps to" another location, such as another file location or a Website.
Microsoft Office 2010 A collection of software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Publisher.
Mini Toolbar A floating toolbar that appears in the work area after you drag the pointer over text while holding down the left mouse button.
Ribbon An area at the top of an Office program that contains commands for working with the open file; the commands are organized under tabs.
ScreenTip A box that appears when you point to a button; contains the button’s name and a description of its function as well as a link to more information and a keyboard shortcut if available.
SharePoint A site set up by an organization, such as a school, business, or nonprofit group.
Shortcut Menu A menu that appears when you right-click something in the program window; it contains a list of commands you are most likely to use with the item or text you right-clicked.
SkyDrive An online storage and file sharing service provided my Microsoft.
Tab An indicator in a paragraph that marks the place where the insertion point will stop when you press the Tab key. Also called a tab stop.
Task Pane A window along the left side of the program window that contains options and commands.
Toolbar A small bar that appears at the top or bottom of a window instead of the Ribbon; it displays buttons you can click to quickly choose a command.
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) The address of a Web page on the Web.
Web Browser Special software such as Internet Explorer, Google chrome, or Firefox, used to view Web pages
World Wide Web (Web) A system of computers that share information by means of links on Web pages.
