Lesson 3 Character
| Term | Definition |

| Character | Any single letter, number, symbol, or punctuation mark. |
| Character Style | Applied to individual characters or words that you select. |
| Font | A set of characters that have the same design. |
| Monospace | All characters take up the same amount of horizontal space. |
| Paragraph Styles | Formats are applied instantly to all text in the paragraph where the insertion point is located. |
| Point Size | Height of characters, with one point equaling approximately 1/72 of an inch. |
| Proportional Space | Horizontal spacing varies. |
| Sans Serif | Does not have the small line extensions on its characters. Arial are sans serif fonts. |
| Serif | Small lines at the beginning and end of characters and are usually used with large amounts of text. |
| Text Effects | Distinctive appearance to selected text, such as outline, shadow, glow, and reflection. |
