| Term | Definition |

| Above Grade Parking | Vehicle parking that is above ground level sually in a structured facility. |
| Adaptability | The capacity of a building or space to be changed so as to responed to changing social, technological and economical conditions. |
| Amenity | Aesthetic or other features of a development that increas its marketability or usability to the public. |
| Bollards | Vertical columns used to physically block or visually guide vehicular traffic in an area. |
| Building TYpology | The general shape, mass, and articulation of a building, categorized by type. |
| Bump-Outs | Widened sidewalk areas at intersections thereby narrowing the pedestrian crossing distance over right-of-way. |
| Density | The floorplace of s building, or buildings, in relation to a given area of land. |
| Enclosure | The use of buildings to create a sense of defined space. |
| Gateways | Locations where a significant number of people enter and exit Downtown. |
| Height Transition | The tapering of building heights as a way of achievine compatability of bilt forms and mitigating impacts of shifts from areas of one character to another. |
| Land mark | A Building or struction that stands out from its background by virture of height size or some other of design |
| Massing | The combined effect of the height bulk and silhouett of a building or group of building |
| Node | A place where activity and routes are concentrated often used synonymously with junction |
| Permeability | The degree to which an area has variety of pleasent conveniet and safe routes through it |
| Rhythm | The recurrence at regular intervals odf design elements that help structure their visuals charater and definition for example a vertical line dividing buildings every 6 to 12 metres will create a rhythm |
| Setback | The minimum distance from the proterty line at which a building must be built. |
| Stacked row House | One or more residential units stacked above one or more residential units |
| Transparency | the degree of visibility through a building facade |
| Tower | Upper portion of a building that is exceptionally high in proportion to the width and length of the base |
