| axis title | Descriptive text that appears next to an axis. |
| bar chart | A column chart turned on its side so that the length of each bar is proportional to its value. |
| category values | The groups or categories that a series values belong to |
| Chart | A visual representation of a set of data values; also called a graph |
| chart animation | A slowed down effect of changing data source values, making it easier to see how changing one value affects the chart |
| chart area | The chart and all of the other chart elements |
| clustered column chart | A column chart that displays the data values in separate columns side-by-side. |
| column chart | A chart that displays data values as columns with the height of each column proportional to its value. |
| combination chart | A chart that combines two or more Excel chart types into a single graph. |
| data bar | A conditional format that adds a horizontal bar to the background of a cell proportional in length to the cell’s value. |
| data callout | A data label that appears as a callout bubble pointing to a data marker |
| data label | Text associated with an individual data marker |
| data series | The range that contains the values plotted on a chart |
| data source | The range that contains the data displayed in a chart |
| embedded chart | A chart object placed in a worksheet |
| exploded pie chart | A pie chart that moves one slice away from the others as if someone were taking the piece away from the pie |
| Filter | The process of limiting data to a subset of the original values |
| Gridline | A line that extends the value of a major or minor tick mark across the plot area of a chart. |
| leader line | A line that connects a data label to its corresponding data marker |
| line chart | A chart that displays data values using a connected line rather than columns or bars. |
| pie chart | A chart in the shape of a circle divided into slices like a pie that show data values as a percentage of the whole |
| scale | The range of values displayed on a chart axis |
| sparkline | A chart that is displayed entirely within a worksheet cell |
| tick mark | A line that identifies the units at regular intervals on a chart axis |
| watermark | Text or an image that appears in the background of each page behind other content. |
