Term | Definition |

AutoComplete | Automatically completes the text of the current date, day of the week, and month. |
Backstage View | Offers quick access to commands for performing may file management tasks--such as opening, closing, saving, printing, and sharing Word documents--all displayed in a single navigation pane. |
Badges | Works with KeyTips. The small square labels that contain the short-cut key information. |
Block Style | Format aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of text, closing, and signature. |
Command | An instruction that you give to Word by clicking a button or entering information into a command box. |
Connection Status Menu | Allows the user to determine whether the Help screen displays content available at Office Online. |
Dialog Box | Displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command. |
Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower-right corner of a group. |
Groups | A collection of related Word commands. |
I-Beam | When you place your cursor near this, it causes the insertion point to change to a large "I". |
Insertion Point | This is placed in the upper-left corner of the document where you would begin creating your text. |
KeyTips | Replaces some keyboard shortcuts, uses the ALT key to display small letters and numbers hovering over associated commands. |

Mini Toolbar | A small toolbar with popular commands that appear when you point to selected text. |
Mixed Punctuation | Punctuation that requires a colon (or comma) after the salutation and a comma after the closing of a letter. |
Nonprinting Characters | Are symbols for certain formatting commands. These symbols can help you create and edit your documents. |
Open Punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing of a letter. |
Preview | Enables the user to visually check your document for errors before printing. |
This option enables the user to send documents straight to a default printer and choose the number of copies to be printed. | |
Quick Access Toolbar | Contains commands that users access most often, such as Save, Undo, and Redo. |
Redo | A command that repeats your last action. |
Ribbon | This is divided into eight tabs. Each tab contains several groups. |
Save | Quickly saves an existing document. |
Save As | Save a document in a specific format; or save for a new document for the first time. |
ScreenTip | When hovering over a command on the Ribbon this will display the name of the command and additional information about the command. |
Settings | Options that enable the user to set document properties. |
Shortcut Menu | Contains a full list of useful commands. |
Tabs | Areas of activity; there are eight of these located on the Ribbon. |
Undo | A command that allows the user to cancel the last command or action. |
WordWrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
