Key Terms and DEfinitions
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Software | set of instructions that tells a computer how to perform tasks |
Operating System | software that controls all of the other software programs and allows the computer to perform basic tasks |
Hardware | all of the physical parts of a computer |
Digital | information that is represented as individual pieces of data using the numbers 1 and 0, rather than as a continuous stream |
Hard Drive | the built in storage device inside a computer |
Input | information that is entered into a computer |
Output | information that a computer produces or processes |
External Storage Device | a storage device that can be easily removed from a computer and is often small and portable |
Read-Only Memory (ROM) | memory that holds data that can be read by a digital device but cannot be changed or deleted |
E-Portfolio | a collection of the best documents and projects you have created and saved in a electronic fromat |
Margin | The blank edge that borders the area in which text and objects can be placed on a page |
Alignment | The way that text or objects are lined up across a page |
Default | A setting that was determined at the time the program was created |
Header | An area for text or other objects that will appear at the top of every page in a document |
Footer | An area for text or other objects that will appear at the bottom of every page. |
Column | A part of a table that extends up and down the table. |
Row | A part of a table that extends across the table |
Cell | The intersection of a column and a row in a table. |
Merge | To combine2 or more cells to create one cell |
