| Term | Definition |

| Software | A set of instructions, also called a program or application, that tells a computer how to perform tasks. |
| Operating system | Software that controls all of the other software programs and allows the compute to perform basic tasks. |
| Hardware | All of the physical parts of a computer. |
| Digital | Information that is represented as individual pieces of data using the numbers 1 and 0, rather than as a continuous stream. |
| Hard Drive | The built-in storage device inside a computer. |
| Input | Information that is entered into a computer. |
| Output | Information that a computer produces or processes. |
| External Storage Devices | A storage device that can be easily removed from a computer ans is often small and portable. |
| Read-only Memory (ROM) | Memory that holds data that can be read by a digital devices but cannot be changed or deleted. |
| E-portfolio | A collection of the best documents and projects that is created and saved in an electronic format. |

| Uniform Resource Locator (URL) | A unique web address that directs a browser to a web page. |
| Domain Name | The part of a URL that usually identifies the owner or the subject of a web site. |
| Search Engine | A web site that finds pages that contain words you tell it to search |
| Boolean operator | A word that can make an internet search more specific and effective. |
| Virus | A small computer program that can copy itself repeatedly in a computer system and cause a variety of problems. |
