| Term | Definition |

| Computer Network | a group of computers connected together in a way that allows information to be exchanged between the computers. |
| Ethernet | A widely used communications protocol for a LAN and uses a twisted pair or coaxial cables |
| TCP/IP | Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol Protocol is a set of guidelines or rules |
| Intranet | A private network that usually gives employees access to company publications |
| IP Address | A number used to uniquely identify a computer on the Internet |
| Client to Server Network | A server is a computer system that selectively shares its resources A client is a computer that initiates contact with a server to use a resource |
| Peer to Peer Network | A network where all networks are on the same level and users have direct access to other computers |
| Wired Network | A wired network uses cables to connect to the network |
| Wireless Network | A wireless network doesn’t use cables |
| Local Area Network (LAN) | a computer network covering a small geographic area, like a home, office, or group of buildings |
| Wide Area Network (WAN) | a computer network that covers a broad area (e.g., any network whose communications links cross metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries |
| Wi-Fi | (802.11)—a family of wireless networking standards • short for Wireless Fidelity |
| Bluetooth | standard for low-cost, short-range, wireless connections between Bluetooth-enabled devices |
