What is Meteorology? the study of the Earth’s atmosphere
What do meteorologists do?  forecast the weather conduct scientific and computer simulations of global weather patterns,study how weather patterns change, and examine the air (quality, composition, etc.)
What tools did meteorologists use? Before radar and satellite information, tools included thermometers, barometers anemometers, wind vanes, and rain gauges.
How was the National Weather Service formed? o under Ulysses S. Grant, the government created the Weather Bureau, which is now known as the National Weather Service
Who created the first thermometer? o 1600 AD, Galileo Galilei developed the first thermometer
Who created the first barometer? o 40 years later, Evangelista Torricelli invented the first practical barometer
What does today's meteorological tools include?  weather satellites, weather balloons, Doppler radar, buoys, and military planes to collect data from space, the air, oceans, and the ground
