Computer Tech Terms

TermDefinition
Server A computer or computer program that manages access to a centralized resource or service in a network.
Cloud Computing that involves a large number of computers connected through a communication network such as the Internet, similar to utility computing.
URL The address of a specific Web site or file on the Internet.
File extension A group of letters occurring after a period in a file name, indicating the format of the file.
Network A network is a group of two or more computer systems linked together.
Router A device that forwards data packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork. A router is connected to two or more data lines from different networks
Access Point A device, such as a wireless router, that allows wireless devices to connect to a network
Bandwidth The data rate supported by a network connection or interface.
Browser A program with a graphical user interface for displaying HTML files, used to navigate the World Wide Web.
Search Engine A program for the retrieval of data from a database or network
