Computer Graphics Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Bitmapped graphics also known as paint graphics. Each drawn item is made up of small dots called pixels.
Vector graphics Each drawn item is a separate vector object (line or curve).
Pixel Short for picture element. This is the smallest unit of visual information that can be used to build an image. They are the little squares that can be seen when a graphics image is enlarged. The more of these in an image, the better its resolution.
GUI Graphical User Interface. An interface that has pictures as well as words on the screen. Originally invented by Xerox, the idea was expanded and popularized by Apple Computers. With windows, icons, pull
Graphics Information that is displayed in a chart, graph, or drawing on a computer.
Selection tool selects the vector object or bitmap area to be changed.
Watermark This is a normally invisible pressure mark in expensive paper which can be seen only when the paper is held up to the light. Some computer files have digitally embedded these as a pattern of bits which appear to be part of the file and are not noticeable
Handles In graphics programs, these are little squares that appear at the edges of selected images or text blocks, which can be used to change the size, shape, or orientation of the selected material.
Grouped Object More than one item or image connected together to form one graphic image.
ClipArt Computerized graphic images
Copy To duplicate sections of text. The original section will remain.
Cut To remove sections of text. The original section will disappear.
Drawing toolbar The toolbar that allows us to utilize drawing tools quickly.
Clipboard An invisible location where the computer stores an image of text that has been copied or cut.
Paste To place an image or text that has been cut or copied.
Text box An outline of an area where text can be placed.
