PASS Writing

These are terms students will need to know on PASS

TermDefinition
composition a piece of writing
topic sentence tell the reader the main idea of the paragraph
details support the main idea found in the topic sentence
conclude when the author restates the main idea at the end of the paragraph
irrelevant details details that do not support the main idea
shifts focus the author has added an irrelevant detail that does not support the main idea
most logical makes sense
combine sentences put two sentences together using a conjunction: and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet
more precise the word paints an exact picture. tip-toed, skipped, darted, pranced, raced, etc.
