| Term | Definition |

| computer | an electronic device that processes data. |
| Personal computer(PC) | is used by one person at a time. |
| Central processing unit(CPU) | which is like the computers brain. |
| bit | is the smallest unit of information, always either a 1 or 0. |
| byte, | the building block for all onformation that flows through a computer. |
| hardware | is the collection of physical devices that make up your computer system. |
| input | is when a user enters information into a computer |
| output | is when a computer delivers information back to a user |
| Random-access memory(RAM) | this memory is temporary information that your computer uses only when you work with a particular file. It is erased when you turn off your computer. |
| storage device | is like your long term memory where you keep important events and your family members names for example. |
| software | is a set of instructions that make it possible for your computer to perform tasks |
| network | is a group of computers connected together. |
| drive | is the largest storage area. |
| folder | is a place to save and organize files |
| file | a collection of data |
| keyword | is a word keyed into a search box tghat matches the topic your looking for. |
| content search | look for info from a list of catergories and topics. |
| keyword search | key one or morekeywords |
| read only memory | this memory is permanent information on your computer. It holds your computer's built- in instructions and cannot be erased or damaged. |
| operating system | is the main program that makes your computer work. |
| save as | this lets you rename a file, and at the same time copy the file by saving it to a new location |
| shortcut | is an icon that is a direct link to a file or folder |
