Term | Definition |

Computer | Electronic device that processes data. |
Personal computer (PC) | Used by one person at a time. |
Central processing unit (CPU) | The computer's brain. |
Bit | Smallest unit of information, always either a 1 or a 0. |
Byte | The building block for all information that flows. |
Hardware | Collection of physical devices that can make up your computer system. |
Input | When a user enters information into a computer. |
Output | When a computer delivers information back to the user. |
Random-access memory (Ram) | Memory is permanent information on your computer. |
Read-only memory (ROM) | Memory that is temporary information that your computer uses only when you work with a particular file. |
Storage device | Such as Hard drive, flash drives, CD's and DVD's and Floppy disk. |
Software | A set if instructions that makes it possible for your computer to perform tasks. |
Operating System (OS) | The main program that makes your computer work. |
Network | A group of computers connected together. |
Drive | The largest storage area. |
Folder | A place to save and organize files |
File | A collection of data. |
Save as | Allows you do to duplicate, or copy, a file |
Shortcut | An icon that is a direct link to a file or a folder. |
Keyword | a word or words keyed into a search box that matches the topic your looking for. |
Content search | Look for information from a list of categories and topics. |
Keyword search | To key one or more keywords. |
