keyboarding Vocabulary

posture the position of a person's body while standing or sitting
alt+tab switch between windows
accuracy the quality or state of being correct or precise
backspace a key on a typewriter or computer keyboard that causes the carriage or cursor to move backward
caps lock a key on a computer keyboard that you press to make any letters you type appear as capital letters until you press it again
contol key(ctrl) a key that alters the function of another key if both are pressed at the same time
cursor control key Keys on terminal or microcomputer keyboards, usually designated with arrows, that position the screen cursor up, down, right or left
delete a command or key on a computer that erases text
enter/return a key on a computer keyboard that is used to perform various functions, such as executing a command or selecting options on a menu
home keys a key on a computer or typewriter keyboard that acts as the base position for one's fingers in touch-typing.
function keys a button on a computer keyboard, distinct from the main alphanumeric keys, to which software can assign a particular function
gross WPM The gross typing speed is calculated by taking all words typed and dividing by the time it took to type the words in minutes
hardware tools, machinery, and other durable equipment.
homerow the row on a typewriter or computer keyboard that contains the keys (home keys) to which four fingers of each hand return as a base
wpm words per minute
keyboarding posture the proper way to sit while typing
keyboard shortcut a keyboard shortcut is a set of one or several keys that invoke a software or operating system operation when triggered by the user
QWERTY denoting the standard layout on English-language typewriters and keyboards, having q, w, e, r, t, and y as the first keys from the left on the top row of letters
service keys
shift key A key on a computer keyboard that, when depressed, changes letters from lowercase to uppercase, changes the effect of a concurrently depressed function key in an application, or changes the effect of pushing a button on a pointing device
