Internet A gigantic computer network that connects computers across the world.
World Wide Web Only one part of the Internet. It is a way of accessing the huge collection of information, services, and Web sites available through the Internet
Web Site A specific location on the Web that contains a collection of related files, resources by a person, group or organization.
Uniform Resource Locator The URL that is each its own. No other site can use that address, like in a book. No 2 pages can have the exact same number.
Internet Service Provider A company that sells you access across the Internet, usually for a monthly fee.
Web Browser A software program that lets you surf the Web and interact with Web sites
Electronic Mail (E-mail) A way you can share information using the Internet. A way of communication, sent from one person to another.
Netiquette A term that means using good etiquette while communicating electronically.
Spam Spam is like junk mail. Its sent in bulk to one's email account, usually to sell something.
Firewall A hardware or software used to protect that protects a computer or network from intruders.
Home Page The page you see when you open your browser.
Drill Down A way to find more specific information, within a site.
Site Map An index of all the main pages in the site that you may use to jump to a specific page within the sites.
Bookmark A shortcut stored in your browser that takes you directly to a Web page.
Favorites Different Term for Bookmark except Favorites use an opposite Browser than Bookmarks.
History A quick way to get to a site if it has been closed within a month.
Print Preview Allows you to preview a page so you can see what it will look like when its been printed.
Search Engine A special kind of Web site that lets you search for other Web sites, using keywords.
Boolean Search A search that uses exact keywords plus special symbols to find the exact information you want.
