TermDefinition
Internet A gigantic computer network that connects computers across the world.
World Wide Web A way of accessing the huge collection of information, services, and Websites available through the internet.
Website A specific location on the internet that contains a collection of related files and resources by a person, group, or organization.
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) The unique or distinctive address of a Website.
Internet Service Provider (ISP) A company the sells you access to the Internet usually for a monthly fee.
Web Browser A software program the lets you surf the web and interact with Websites
Electronic Mail (e-mail) A way that you can share information using the internet.
Netiquette The good manners one uses in electronic communication.
Spam Is like junk mail. It is sent in bulk to many people's email account.
Firewall A hardware or software that protects a computer or network from intruders.
Home Page The homepage is where you go first on your computer.
Drill Down To find more information.
Site Map An index of all the main pages in the site that you may use to jump straight to a page without drilling down.
Bookmark A shortcut stored in your browser that takes you directly to a Web page.
Favorites Favorites is the name for bookmarks.
History The record of the Web sites you have been.
Print Preview Allows you to view a page so you can see how it will look when it is printed.
Search Engine A special kind of Web site that lets you search for other Web sites using key words.
Boolean Search A search that uses keywords plus special symbols to find the exact information you want by elimination search results that are too general.
