Internet gigantic computer network that connects computers across the world.
World Wide Web a way of accessing the huge collection of information, services, and websites available through the Internet
Web site specific location on the Web that contains a collection of related files and resources by a person, group, or organization.
Uniform resource locator (URL) a web site that has its own address that no other site can use.
Internet service provider (USP) A company that sells you access to the Internet, usually for a monthly fee.
Web browser A software program that that lets you surf the web and interact with web sites.
Electronic mail(e-mail) Another way that you can share information using the Internet.
Netiquette Refers to the good manners one uses in electronic communications.
Spam Junk mail
Firewall hardware or software that protects a computer or network from intruders.
Home page Your browser usually allows you to use links to other useful sites on the Web.
Drill down To find more specific information.
Site map An index of all the main pages in the site That you may use to jump straight to a page without drilling down.
Bookmark A shortcut stored in your browser that takes you directly to a Web site.
Favorites Bookmarks are called Favorites
History The record of the Web site you visit.
print Preview Allows you to view a page so you can see how it will look when it is printed.
Search engine A special kind of Web site that lets you search for other Web pages using keywords.
Boolean search Search that uses keywords plus search symbols to find the exact information you want by eliminating search results that are too general or too broad.
