Icon | a pictorial element representing a program, file, website, or shortcut |
Taskbar | a horizontal bar that enables you to move among open windows and provides access to system resources |
Desktop | contains icons and a taskbar |
Start Button | provides access to programs and other system resources |
Quick Launch Toolbar | contains program icons, making it possible to open programs with a single click |
Control Panel | enables you to change system settings, such as your back ground, screensaver, screen fonts, and accessibility options |
Window | is an enclosed rectangular area representing a program or data |
Dialog Box | is a special window that requests input or presents information |
File | a unit of data to which you give a name |
Folder | an object that can hold multiple files and subfolders |
Windows Explorer | enables you to manage files and folders |
Application Software | – computer software designed to help the user to perform a specific function such as word processing |
Operating System | a computer program that manages the resources of a computer such as accepting keyboard input from users and displays it to the screen |
File Management | the process of managing data on your computer |
Microsoft Office 2010 | a suite of software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc…) |
Copy | use one item from a document in another area of the document |
Details Pane | area within Windows Explorer that shows various information about a specific item |
Document Pane | area within Windows Explorer where you can see all files within a folder |
Metadata | information related to one or more aspects of data |
Move | take an item (for example a file or document) and place it in another location on your computer |
Navigation Pane | list of all areas within your computer |
Rename | changing the name of a document, file, folder, etc... |
Task Pane | area within Windows Explorer that holds links to specific tasks you can perform on a document, file, folder, etc |
