MS Word and Windows Review

Application Program Use one of these to perform a certain task on the computer (MS Word , MS PPT and MS Excel are examples)
Cursor/Insertion Pt. The blinking vertical line where text appears when keyed in
Delete Key To erase text to the right of the cursor, press this key.
Backspace Key To erase text to the left of the cursor, press this key.
Word Wrap When the computer runs out of room at the right margin and begins using the next line of type
Wrap Text Objects that are unable to be moved to a different location on the page.
Resource Drive: (R) A place on the network where everyone saves the same file
Landscape When a page is wider than it is tall (8 1/2" by 11")
Portrait When a page is taller than it is wide(11” by 8 ½”)
Orientation How a page is setup for the user, either tall or wide.
Template Something that is created ahead of time to help the user work on an application
Default The original settings used on a application
I Beam The mouse turns into this when the user wants to make editing changes in a document
Icon Small image of documents, folders, applications usually found on the desktop
Home Drive: (H) A place on the network where students are allowed to save files
Margins The outside edge of a piece of paper where no typing occurs
Shortcut Keys (F7) A single key or combination of keys used to perform a task, instead of using a mouse
MS Ribbon Appears at the top of every Word document and is the Command Center for MS Word
Flash Drive: (F) A backup drive that is used by students so they can work on files outside of school
MS Word An application used for information processing
MS Excel An application used for money management
MS PowerPoint An application used for business presentations
Ainsworth Keyboarding An application used to test students on their keyboarding speed and accuracy
Windows 10 The Operating System used by our school district (sdom)to run our computers
Folder A place where documents are organized using Windows
Double Clicking Pointing at something and clicking the left mouse button 2x
Dragging Holding the left mouse button while moving the mouse
Right Clicking One way to use short cuts in an application
Mouse Pointer Usually appears as an arrow
Mouse Shape in MS Word when in the Text Area I-Beam
Mouse Shape in MS Word when in the Draw Mode + Sign
Mouse Shape in MS Word when there is an Active Hyperlink Hand
Line and Paragraph Spacing Found in the Paragraph Tools Section in MS Word (Home Tab)
Spell Checker Found in the Review Tab in MS Word as well as other places
AutoCorrect Fixes many common typing mistakes in MS Word
Insert Mode The normal mode used while keying in data where text is pushed to the right.
Overtype Mode This special mode is used to replace existing text with new text.
