File Operation Terms
Terms for File Operations
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| CLOSE | You do this the document after you have keyed it, saved, and printed. |
| COPY | To duplicate text and/or graphics to the clipboard for use in another location within the same document or to another document. |
| CUT | When you remove text from a document to put it into the clipboard for use elsewhere or to delete it. |
| EDIT | To change text in some way by overtyping, deleting, inserting, or rearranging. |
| OPEN | To bring your file back onto your screen for editing and formatting. |
| PASTE | Inserts cut or copied data at the location of the cursor. |
| SAVE | To store a document onto your computer so you can open it to edit, format, or reprint it at a later date. |
| SELECT | Highlighting words or graphics by clicking and dragging or clicking multiple times. |
| UNDO | Takes back actions (sometimes several) you have performed in your document. |
| REDO | Puts back actions you have undone. |
| FOLDER | Something that lets you organize electronic files. |
| FILE | Any application, document, or data stored as an organized series of bits. |
| OPERATING SYSTEM | Software that lets the device run and that allows you to use it. |
| APPLICATION | Another name for a program. Performs specific tasks. |
| DOCUMENT | A kind of file that may be made up of graphics, text, or both. Is created by an application |
| SOFTWARE | Digitally coded instructions or data. |
| HARD COPY | A paper copy of a document. |
| Creating a paper copy of a document. | |
| DELETE | Permanently removing a file or part of a file. |
