TermDefinition
Spreadsheets are most commonly used to manipulate data.
Title Bar is the top line of the Excel Screen.
File tab displays a list of basic program functions such as Open, save, print and close.
Ribbon consists of range of tabs, containing buttons within groups.
Status Bar runs along the bottom of the window.
Taskbar is at the bottom of the screen.
ToolTip gives information and an alternative key press for the function if available.
Active cell is the cell surrounded by a black border.
Cell reference identifies the location of a cell or group of cells in the SpreadSheet.
Data is information that is stored in a SpreadSheet program.
Formula is a mathematical equation that will calculate a result.
Function is a specialised formula that make a calculation easier.
Name box displays the cell reference of the active cell.
Formula Bar displays the data or formula stored in the active cell.
Range a group of cells in a worksheet that have been selected or highlighted. When cells have been selected they are surrounded by a black outline or border.
Worksheet is a single page or sheet in an Excel SpreadSheet.
Autofill quickly creates a series of entries based on the data you enter in one or two cells. AutoFill works with days of the week, months of the year, yearly quarters; consecutive series of numbers; and formulas.
Dialogue box launcher A small icon in the lower-right corner of a group of command buttons on the Ribbon that you click to access a dialog box with additional related settings and commands.
