ICT2 - Unit 4 - Excel Charts

TermDefinition
Chart A graphical representation of data.
Column Chart Uses bars of varying heights to illustrate values
Line Chart Uses point connected by a line to illustrate the values
Pie Chart Show the relationship of a part to a whole
Scatter Chart AKA "XY Chart" shows the relationship between two categories of data
Data Series Related informatoin in a column or row of a worksheet that is plotted on the chart
Data Source The data upon which a chart is based
Chart Area The entire chart and all other elements.
Plot Area The graphical representation of all of the data series
Titles Descriptive labels that identify the contents of the chart and the axes
Axes Lines that establish a relationship between data in a chart; most charts have a horizontal axis and a vertical axis
Data Marker A symbol (such as a bar, line, dot, slice and so forth) that represents a single data point or value from the corresponding worksheet cell
Legend A list that identifies patterns, symbols, or colors used in the chart
Data Table A grid that displays the data plotted in the chart
Vertical Axis Title The Y axis - usually a unit of measurement
Horizontal Axis The X axis - usually what is being measured
Chart Style Easy way to change color or format
Selection Box Used to choose the style chart or graph to be used
Chart Layout Allows you to choose a design
