| personal computer (PC) | a computer that is used by one person at a time |
| central processing unit (CPU) | a small chip that performs calculations and carries out all instructions given to a computer (also known as microprocesser) |

| byte | smallest unit of information |
| hardware | collecton of physical devices that make up your computer system |
| input | information entered into a computer |
| output | information delivered back to a user |
| random-access memory (RAM) | the temoporary information that a computer uses only when it works with a particular file |
| read-only memory (ROM) | the permanent informaton on your hard drive |
| storage device | keeps things stored in your application and files |
| software | set of instructions that make it possible for your computer to perform tasks |
| operating system (OS) | main program that makes it possible for computer to work |
| network | group of computers connected together |
| drive | largest storage area |
| folder | place to save and organize files |
| file | collection of data |
| save as | command used to duplicate or copy a file |
| shortcut | icon that is a direct link to a file or folder |
| keyword | word or words keyed into a search box that matches the topic you're looking for |
| content search | to seek out information from a list of categories and topics |
| keyword search | to seek out information through a database by keying in words or phrases that match your topic |
