| central processing unit (cpu) | the computers brain. |
| bit | the smallest unit of information. |
| byte | the buliding block for all information that flows through a computer. |
| hardware | the collection of physical devices that make up you computer system. |
| input | when a user enters information into a computer. |
| output | when a computer delivers information back to a user. |
| random-access memory (ram) | the temporary information that a computer uses only when it works with a particular file. |
| read-only memory (rom) | the permanent information on you hardware drive. |
| storage device | hardware that saves data onto a hard drive a server or a disk. |
| software | a set of instructions that makes it possible for your computer to preform task. |
| operating system (os) | the main program that makes your computer program. |
| network | a groupe of computers connected together. |
| drive | the largest storage area. |
| folder | a place to save and organize files. |
| file | a collection of data. |
| save as | you can duplicate or copy a file. |
| shortcut | an icon that is a direct link to a file or folder. |
| keyword | a word keyed into a search box that matches the topic you are looking for. |
| content search | information from a list of categories and topic. |
| keyword search | one or more keywords. |
