Art elements

TermDefinition
OBSERVATION Looking. Becoming aware of what we see/taking notice of what we see.
RECORDING Drawing or painting what we have noticed when we have observed or looked at something.
COMPOSITION The way the different parts of a drawing or painting(shapes ,lines ,colours and so on) are put together or organised on a sheet of paper.
PROPORTION The relationship between the height and width of an object. The sizes of objects in relation to each other.
SCALE The size of a drawing on a sheet of paper.
FORM The observation and recording of the 3D(three dimensional) quality of an object using line and tone.
TEXTURE The observation and recording of texture(surface quality)using a variety of marks made by pencils/brushes or other tools.
DETAIL The observation and recording of the outline of a shape in line.
