World Wide Web | A way of accessing the huge collection of information, services, and Web sites available through the internet. |
Web site | A specific location on the web that contains a collection of related files and resources by a person, group, or ogainization. |
uniform resource locatir (URL) | A websites own address that no other site can use. |
Internet service provider (ISP) | A company that sells you access to the internet, usually for a monthly fee. |
Web browser | A software program that lets you surf the web and interact with web sites. |
Electronic mail (e-mail) | Another way that you can share information using the internet. |
Netiquette | The good manner one uses in electronic communications. |
Spam | Junk mail. |
Firewall | Hardware or software that protects a computer or network from intruders. |
Home page | The first web page you see when your browser opens. |
Drill down | When you explore a web site, you usually start with the home page and drill down. |
Site map | An index of all the main pages in the site that you may use to jump straight to a page without drilling down. |
Bookmark | A shortcut stored in your browser that takes you directly to a web page. |
Favorites | In the Internet Exploter browser, bookmarks are called favorites. |
History | Browser history. |
Print preview | Allows you to view a pages so you can see how it will look when it is printed |
Search engine | A special kind of web site that lets you search for other web pages using key words. |
Boolean search | A search that uses keywords plus special symbol to find the exact information you want by eliminating search results that are too general or too broad. |
