A+ A certif demonstrating basic tech proficiency w/computer systems.
Bandwidth A common term for the amount of data that can be transmitted through a network connection. Bandwidth is also used to describe relative Internet connection speed for DSL and cable modems. Usually measured in megabits per second (Mbps).
Cloud computing Services and applications provided over the Internet that provide individuals and businesses readily available infrastructure to share documents, resources, and software.
Cloud integration services An emerging technology by which applications help integrate and transfer data between separate clouds.
Cluster computing The use of clusters of computers to process large amounts of data
e-readers Wireless digital devices that allow users to read published content on a tablet, versus buying physical books, magazines, or newspapers.
Electronic Medical Record The individual collected and administered health care records of a single facility or health care provider.
4G A popular notation for “fourth generation” mobile communication standards still in development.
Parallel processing A data processing method used to perform complicated and processor-intensive tasks using multiple processors.
Peripheral device Any device connected to a computer such as a printer, monitor, keyboard, computer mouse, or WiFi antenna.
Pervasive computing Also called ubiquitous computing, the concept that computing devices are embedded in everyday objects and communicate constantly with networks and users.
Software as a Service Applications accessed on remote servers via an Internet connection.
Solid-state memory A storage solution that uses electric charges to read and write data.
Web mail Internet-based e-mail accessed via a browser or other web-based application. Web mail is accessed and stored on remote servers in the cloud.
