QuestionAnswer
Organelles tiny structures that carry out specific functions in the cell
Cell Theory all living things are composed of cells; CELLS are the BASIC UNITS of Structure and Function in all living things; all Cells are produced from other Cells
Cytoplasm region inside the cell membrane (! except for the nucleus !); a jell-like fluid that is constantly moving
Cell Membrane a structure in a cell that controls which substances and enter or leave the cell
Ribosomes a small grain-like structure in the cytoplasm of a cell; it is where PROTEINS are made...
Cell Wall a rigid layer of non-living material that surrounds the cells of PLANTS and some other organisms
Chloroplasts a structure in the cells of PLANTS (and some other organisms) that captures energy from the sunlight and uses it to produce food - Chlorophyll is the green pigment in Chloroplasts (makes the plant green.)
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) a cell structure that forms a MAZE a passageway in which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell to another. Rough and Smooth... think MAZE. Golgi Body hangs out near it...
Nucleus a cell structure that contains nucleic acids - the chemical instructions that direct all the cells activities
Lysomes a small round structure that contains enzymes that break down large food particles into smaller ones.
Vacuole a water filled sac inside a cell that acts as a storage area.
Mitochondria MIGHTY BEAN / ROD shaped structure that produces most of the ENERGY NEEDED to carry out the cells FUNCTIONS.
Golgi Aparatus hangs out near the ER and it is a structure in a cell that receives proteins and other newly formed material from the ER packages them and distributes them to other parts of the cell.
