FPM (fast page memory) | an outdated memory mode used before the introduction of EDO memory |
General Protection Fault (GPF) | a Windows that occurs when a program attempts to access a memory address that is not available or is no longer assigned to it |
memory bank | the memory a processor addresses at one time |
parity | an error-checking scheme in which a ninth bit is added |
parity error | an error that occurs when the number of 1s in the byte is not in agreement with the expected number |
RDRAM | a RDRAM memory technology that uses a narrow network-type system bus |
re-marked chips | re-marked chips that have been used and returned to the factory, marked again and resold |
RIMM | a type of RIMM memory module |
SIMM (single inline memory module) | a miniature SIMM circuit board used in older computers to hold RAM |
Single channel | the memory controller on a motherboard that can access only one DIMM at a time single channel |
single ranked | DIMMs that provide only one single ranked 64-bit bank |
single-sided | memory chips embedded on only a single side of a DIMM |
SO-DIMM (small outline DIMM) | a type of SO-DIMM memory module used in notebook computers that uses DIMM technology |
synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) | a type of SDRAM memory stored on DIMMs that runs in sync with the system clock |
triple channels | when the triple channels memory controller accesses 3 DIMMs at the same time |
