What is civil disobedience and how is Thoreau connected with this concept? It is the refusal to comply with certian laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. Henry david Thoreau wrote a book about civil disobedience.
What was the Second Great Awakening and when did it happen? The second religios renewal of faith, in the 1790s to the early 1800s.
What was the temperence movement? It was the moderation or self-restraint in action.
Who was Horace Mann and why was he signifigant? He was a teacher and called "father of education" and worked to improve it.
Who was Dorothea Dix and why was she signifigant? She was the most effective advocate of humanitarian reform in America.
Define abolitionist. The act or action of abolishing a system, practice, or institution.
Name five abolitionist. Fredrick Douglass, William Garrison, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Lucretia Mott.
What movement paralleled the abolitionist movement? Proslavery movement.
Explain the Seneca Falls Convention. To represent womens' rights.
