Principles of Design and Layout
| Term | Definition |

| BALANCE | The way the elements are arranged to create a feeling of stability in a page layout; the visual weight of a design. |
| EMPHASIS | The focal point of an image, or when one area or thing stands out the most on a page |
| CONTRAST | A large difference between two things within an image to create interest and tension - such as the colors black and white. |
| MOVEMENT | Created by repeated lines, shapes, colors, etc., that direct the viewers eye to another object on the page |
| PATTERN | Repetition of a shape or design often used in for a background |
| CONTINUITY | When all the elements in the project work together to create unity |
| STYLE | The artist unique techniques in design |
| PROPORTION | Refers to the relative size and scale of the various elements and design |
