TermDefinition
Access Copyright A Canadian non-profitable organization which ensures that publishers are payed when consumers use their work.
Copyright A right that enables you to make copies, license and use others work in any media form.
Intellectual Property The idea that an individual owns their unique thoughts.
Royalty The payments that the consumers give to the owners when they wish to use their work.
Trade-Marks Something that distinguishes a good from others who produce the same good.
Public Domain When a work is available to the public without constrictions of copyright.
Moral Rights Refers to the author's ability to control what happens to their work. Moral Rights are the rights of the creator.
Performing Rights The ability to perform music in front of others. It demands that the music's composer and publisher receive royalties with a 50/50 split.
Plagiarism Taking credit for someone else's work.
Fair Dealing Allows an individual to use a work that they otherwise may not be able to use due to Copyright restrictions. The individual must be using the work for strict set of purposes.
Patent Legal ownership of a new idea.
Blanket License Allows individuals to play or perform songs as many times as they want using a single license.
