Type/Text terms used in Graphic Arts

TermDefinition
1. Layout the way in which text or pictures are set out on a page
2. Font a set of type of one particular face and size
3. Character a symbol representing a letter or number
4. Glyph a special character or symbol not visible on a keyboard
5. Tab a device on a keyboard, for advancing to a sequence of set positions in a document
6. Caps capital letters used when keyboarding (uppercase)
7. Lowercase small letters used when keyboarding
8. Lorem ipsum Placeholder text (filler text) used to demonstrate graphic elements in a document
9. Export transfer data in a format that can be used by other programs
10. Overset text occurs when a text box is too small for the type contained in it symbolized in InDesign by a small red cross in a box
11. Default a preselected option adopted by a computer program
12. Edit to change or make a correction
13. Specs short for specifications
14. Specifications an act of stating precise requirements
15. Management the process of dealing with or controlling things
