Second terms for Essential Technology

Active Cell | The cell currently selected in a spreadsheet |
Function | The building blocks of computer programs, since they can control both small and large amounts of data. |
Formula | A calculation that is performed on one or more variables. |
Spreadsheet | Document that stores data in a grid of horizontal rows and vertical columns. |
Cell | Specific location within a spreadsheet. |
Rows | Horizontal group of values within a table. |
Columns | Vertical group if values within a table. |
Archive | A single file that contains multiple files and/or folders. |
DCIM | "Digital Camera Images." DCIM is the standard name of the root folder digital cameras use to store digital photos. |
Drop Down Menu | Horizontal list of options that each contain a vertical menu. |
File Extension | The suffix at the end of a file name that indicates what type of file it is. |
File Format | Defines the structure and type of data stored in a file. |
File Type | Name given to a specific kind of file. |
Minimize | When you minimize your window you hide it from view. |
Multitasking | Doing multiple things at one time |
Operating System | Communicates with hardwear and allows progams to run |
Piracy | Installing and using commercial programs without paying for it. |
Plug-In | An add-on for a program that adds functionality to it. FOr example Phooshop plug-in (such as Eye Candy) may add extra filters that you can use to manipulate images. |
Pop-up Menu | Menu that pops up on the screen when user right clicks an area |
Pop-up Window | A pop-up window is a type of window that opens without the user selecting "New Window" from a program's File menu. |
PowerPoint | Presentation program developed by Microsoft. It is included in the standard Office suite. The software allows users to create anything from basic slide shows to complex presentations. |
Public Domain | Public domain is a legal term that describes a work or product that is not protected by copyright. |
Title Bar | The section at the top of a window that contains the name or description of the window. |
Virus | Something you don't want to get. Computer viruses are small programs or scripts that can negatively affect the health of your computer. |
Word Wrap | Word wrapping is when a line of text automatically "wraps" to the next line when it gets to the end of a page or text field. |
Worm | type of virus that wiggles its way through your computers memory and hard drive. "WORM" can also mean "Write Once, Read Many." It is an optical storage technology that allows a disc to be written only once but read an unlimited number of times. |
